Mastering Time Management: A Guide for Busy Moms

Mastering Time Management: A Guide for Busy Moms

Posted in

Don’t you wish the day had 37 hours? Because, as a mom, you're a superhero. From caring for your children to working and managing the homefront, your days can often feel like a whirlwind. With so much to do and so little time, mastering time management becomes essential.

We've put together some effective strategies to help you make the most of your precious time and reclaim control of your schedule.

Priorities First

Yes, there are a million things that have to happen, but ask yourself honestly: “Which tasks are most essential for my family's well-being and my own?” Because there’s only so much you can juggle in 24 hours.

Start identifying your priorities and rank them based on importance. Remember, it's okay if the baby bath tub doesn’t get cleaned one night. And coffee and bedtime stories are important too. Focus on what truly matters and allocate your time accordingly.

Set Realistic Goals

Now, you’ve got a list of priorities, but boy is each job daunting. Don’t look at the overwhelming biggies. Break down your goals into manageable tasks and set realistic deadlines.

Whether it's completing household chores or pursuing personal projects, breaking things down into achievable increments, guides you to your end-goal and keeps you focused and motivated.

When you cross something off your list, be sure to give yourself some credit. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small.

Establish a Routine

Things happen faster, when you don’t have to think about them. Routine provides structure, consistency, and habitual action.

Create a daily schedule that includes designated times for work, household responsibilities, family time, and self-care. A weekly rotational dinner-plan is also helpful, shop-wise and prep-wise.

Stick to your routine as much as possible, but of course, be flexible enough to adapt to changes, such as in-laws popping in for a visit.

Learn to Delegate

Even though you do it best, you don't have to do it all alone. Hubby can help with grocery shopping, and your children can pitch in with the household cleaning. Even if it’s not done according to your standards, learn to let go. It’ll lighten your load and teach them good skills.

Sharing responsibilities creates an atmosphere of teamwork and frees up your valuable time for other priorities.

Mom Hacks

Hacks are the busy mom’s best friends. Time is valuable, so max it out by thinking ahead and minimizing any work possible.

No more loading the kiddies and Doona into the car for grocery shopping, place your orders online. Let other people go down the aisles and collect your essentials for you.

Get acquainted with your freezer. Prep supper in bulk and freeze in the portion amounts that you need.

When it comes to organizing the daily pileup and tackling the kitchen sink, how cute is this Munchkin bottle drying rack?

Practice Self-Care

Remember to prioritize self-care amidst your busy schedule. Because happy Mom = happy home. Set aside time each day for activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Whether it's exercising, reading, or enjoying a quiet cup of tea, self-care rejuvenates your spirit and enables you to keep giving.

Be Kind to Yourself

As much as you try to manage your time to its fullest, be gentle on yourself. You're doing the best you can in a demanding role that often goes unrecognized. Let go of expectations. Accept that not every day will go according to plan, and that's okay. Keep doing what you’re doing- every job in the world is replaceable, besides for Mom’s role in her home!
